Mole fraction : Mole fraction of any component in a solution is the number of moles of that particular component divided by the sum of moles of all the components present in a solution .
Consider a binary solution of two components A and B . Let `n_(A) and n_(B)` are the number of moles of components A and B respectively . The
Mole fraction of `A, x_(A) = (n_(A))/(n_(A) + n_(B))`
Mole fraction of `B, x_(B) = (n_(B))/(n_(A) + n_(B))`
Clearly : `x_(A) + x_(B) = (n_(A))/( n_(A) + n_(B)) + (n_(B))/( n_(A) + n_(B))`
`= (n_(A) + n_(B))/( n_(A) + n_(B)) = 1 `
Thus, sum of the mole fractions of all the components present in a solution is unity . Mole fraction has no units . It is independent of temperature as it a mass/mass relationship
