In ethers , there is no hydrogen atoms directly bonded to oxygen atom . As such no H- bonding is possible in ethers .
`underset("Alcohol")(R-O-H) " " underset("Ether")(R-O-R)`
In alcohols , one hydrogen atom is directly bonded to oxygen atom . As such there in an extensive intermolecular H- bonding in alcohols in liquid state , therefore , boiling points of alcohols are higher isomeric ethers .
