CBSE Syllabus for Class 6 Hindi (2025-26)

Class 6 Hindi is a subject that forms the basic foundation of language skills that will be developed in students throughout their educational lifespan. The CBSE syllabus of Class 6 Hindi for the 2025-26 academic year is carefully designed to equip students with a firm grip over aspects like reading comprehension, grammar, creative writing, and literature. It is hoped that students will not only excel in their exams with the help of this syllabus but also develop a lifelong respect for the Hindi language.

1.0CBSE Class 6 Hindi Syllabus — An Overview

The CBSE Class 6 Hindi Syllabus divides into four main sections (खंड) of the Hindi Language, namely: 

  • Reading Comprehension (अपठित बोध)
  • Grammar (व्याकरण)
  • Literature (पाठ्यपुस्तक एवं पूरक पाठ्यपुस्तक)
  • Writing Skills (लेखन कौशल)

Each of these sections is designed to enhance the writing, reading, and grammar skills of students in Hindi. The CBSE divides the syllabus for class VI Hindi into two terms, and students are evaluated on the basis of the term-end examination in each term. 

The term-end theory exam consists of 80 marks, while the remaining 20 are given on students’ overall performance in the class over the academic session.

3.0Detailed CBSE Class 6 Hindi Syllabus 2025-26

I. Reading Comprehension (अपठित बोध)

This section focuses on developing students' ability to understand and interpret unseen texts.

  • अपठित गद्यांश (Unseen Prose Passage): Students will be given a short, simple prose passage (e.g., a story, a descriptive piece, or an informative text). Questions will assess:
    • Direct comprehension of facts and details mentioned in the passage.
    • Inference and understanding of the main idea or theme.
    • Vocabulary in context.
  • अपठित काव्यांश (Unseen Poetry Excerpt): A short, simple poem will be provided, followed by questions to evaluate:
    • Basic understanding of the poem's lines and simple meanings.
    • Identification of characters or central ideas (if applicable).
    • Simple vocabulary.

II. Grammar (व्याकरण)

The grammar section for Class 6 lays the groundwork for fundamental Hindi grammatical concepts.

  • संज्ञा (Noun): Types of nouns (व्यक्तिवाचक, जातिवाचक, भाववाचक), identification of nouns in sentences.
  • सर्वनाम (Pronoun): Types of pronouns (पुरुषवाचक, निश्चयवाचक, अनिश्चयवाचक, संबंधवाचक, प्रश्नवाचक, निजवाचक) and their usage.
  • विशेषण (Adjective): Types of adjectives (गुणवाचक, संख्यावाचक, परिमाणवाचक, सार्वनामिक) and degrees of comparison (simple introduction).
  • क्रिया (Verb): Transitive and Intransitive verbs (सकर्मक और अकर्मक क्रिया), identification of verbs.
  • लिंग (Gender): Masculine and Feminine forms (पुल्लिंग और स्त्रीलिंग) of nouns and pronouns, and their agreement with verbs.
  • वचन (Number): Singular and Plural forms (एकवचन और बहुवचन) of nouns and verbs.
  • काल (Tense): Introduction to Present, Past, and Future Tenses (वर्तमान, भूत, भविष्य काल) with simple examples.
  • शब्द-भंडार (Vocabulary):
    • पर्यायवाची शब्द (Synonyms): Common synonyms.
    • विलोम शब्द (Antonyms): Common antonyms.
    • अनेकार्थी शब्द (Homonyms/Words with Multiple Meanings): Simple examples.
    • श्रुतिसम भिन्नार्थक शब्द (Homophones/Confusable Words): Introduction to words that sound similar but have different meanings.
  • उपसर्ग और प्रत्यय (Prefixes and Suffixes): Basic understanding and identification.
  • विराम चिह्न (Punctuation Marks): Introduction to common punctuation marks (पूर्ण विराम, अल्प विराम, प्रश्नवाचक, विस्मयादिबोधक).
  • वाक्य रचना (Sentence Formation): Simple sentence structures.

III. Literature (पाठ्यपुस्तक एवं पूरक पाठ्यपुस्तक)

The literature section is based on the prescribed NCERT textbooks, which introduce students to various forms of Hindi prose and poetry.

  • Prescribed Textbooks:
    • वसंत भाग - 1 (Vasant Bhag - 1): This is the main textbook containing a collection of stories, essays, and poems.
    • बाल रामकथा (Baal Ramkatha): This supplementary reader presents the story of Ramayana in a simplified and engaging manner for young readers.
  • Content from Vasant Bhag - 1:
    • Students will read and comprehend lessons/poems from this textbook.
    • Questions will assess:
      • Understanding of the plot, characters, and themes of stories.
      • Interpretation of poetic lines and identification of the central message.
      • Understanding of literary devices (simple examples like simile, metaphor, if introduced in the text).
      • Moral values or messages conveyed by the texts.
      • Direct and inferential questions based on the chapters.
  • Content from बाल रामकथा (Baal Ramkatha):
    • Questions will focus on:
      • Understanding the sequence of events in the Ramayana story.
      • Knowledge of main characters and their roles.
      • Moral lessons or values depicted in the narrative.

IV. Writing Skills (लेखन कौशल)

This section focuses on developing students' ability to express themselves effectively in written Hindi.

  • अनुच्छेद लेखन (Paragraph Writing): Students will write short paragraphs (approx. 60-80 words) on familiar topics or based on provided hints. Emphasis on coherence and proper sentence structure.
  • चित्र वर्णन (Picture Description): Describing a given picture in simple, clear sentences.
  • पत्र लेखन (Letter Writing): Introduction to informal letter writing (e.g., to friends, family) with focus on format and content.
  • कहानी लेखन (Story Writing): Completing a story given a beginning or a set of hints, or writing a short original story.
  • संवाद लेखन (Dialogue Writing): Writing a short dialogue between two characters on a simple topic.
  • सूचना लेखन (Notice Writing): Simple notices for common school events.

4.0Internal Assessment

The internal assessments are activities curated to evaluate not only students’ writing skills in the term-end exam but also their overall performance in the classroom throughout the year. These carry a total of 20 marks towards the final result and are divided into 4 assessment types with 5 marks each:
