Exercise 1.6 of NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Maths Chapter 1 "Patterns in Mathematics" examined the interesting connection that can be made between shape sequences and number sequences. In this small section, the emphasis is on observing how geometric patterns can be counted and represented by numerical patterns and vice versa. The section builds on the earlier learning of recognizing and extending different types of number and visual patterns, and observing the relationships buried within them and appreciating their connections within mathematics.
This exercise has students look at the same common properties that they would analyze as the number of sides, the number of corners, or the number of internal parts of a shape in a sequence of shapes, and compare these with a corresponding number sequence .

Connecting Shape Patterns to Number Sequences: The understanding of how numbers can represent the properties of a sequence of shapes.
Explaining the Relationship: The ability to explain why a particular number sequence arises from a particular sequence of shapes (e.g., the number of sides is equal to the number of corners for a regular polygon).
Predicting Future Terms: The ability to use the established relationship to predict the number of elements or properties in future terms in a shape or number sequence.
Observing Different Perspectives: Understanding that the same mathematical idea or number can be illustrated pictorially in different ways (e.g., 36 viewed as both a triangular and a square number).
