In the interference pattern produced by two identical slits, the intensity of central maximum is l. What will the intensity of light at the same spot, if one of the slits is closed?

A

l

B

l/2

C

l/4

D

l/8

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Let intensity form each slit is `l_(0)`
`therefore " "l = l_(0) + l_(0) + 2sqrt(l_(0)) sqrt(l_(0))`
If one slit is closed, then intensity will only be `l_(0)` i.e., `(l)/(4)` .
