2.0History & Background of DGE

The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) was formed to bring all school-level public examinations in Tamil Nadu under one administrative body.

Earlier, exams were handled by separate agencies, but in 1975, the Tamil Nadu government established the DGE to unify and streamline the process.

Since then, DGE has been responsible for:

  • Preparing exam timetables and guidelines
  • Managing exam centres and question paper distribution
  • Evaluating answer scripts
  • Publishing results on time

Today, the DGE administers exams for nearly 25 lakh students every year across the state.

  • TN SSLC and HSE Exam Dates 2026: The Class 10 (SSLC) and Class 12 (HSE) exams are expected to be conducted in March–April 2026.
  • Supplementary Exam Notification: DGE announced supplementary exams for students who couldn’t pass in the main exam; registration begins right after result declaration.

9.0Eligibility & Application Process

  • Regular Students: Schools affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Board automatically register their students for public exams through DGE.
  • Private Candidates: Those not enrolled in a regular school can apply directly on the official DGE portal by submitting documents (age proof, previous mark sheet) and paying the exam fee.
  • Special Students: The board also provides separate exam facilities for students with disabilities or those under special categories.

Students must confirm their exam centres, hall tickets, and time schedules from their schools or via the DGE website before the exam.
