Through the Madhya Pradesh Secondary Education Act, The MPBSE was established in 1965 to bring uniformity and standardisation to secondary and higher secondary education in the state.
Before its establishment, secondary examinations and related schooling matters in the state were less organised; with MPBSE in place, the board took on the roles of prescribing curriculum, conducting exams, granting school recognition and more.
