In SHM restoring force is `F = -kx`, where k is force constant, x is displacement and a is amplitude of motion, then total energy depends upon

A

k,A and M

B

k,x, M

C

k,A

D

k,x

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

In SHM, the total energy =potential energy+kinetic energy
or `E=U+K`
`=(1)/(2)momega^(2)x^(2)+(1)/(2)momega^(2)(A^(2)-x^(2))`
`=(1)/(2)momega^(2)A^(2)=(1)/(2)kA^(2)`
where k=force constant `=momega^(2)`
Thus, total energy dependents on k and A.
