In potentiometer experiment, null point ...

In potentiometer experiment, null point isobtained at a particular point for a cell on potentiometer wire x cm long. If the lengthof the potentiometer wire is increasedwithout changing the cell, the balancing length will (Driving source is not changed)

A

increase

B

decrease

C

not change

D

become zero

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

According to question, the functioning of potentiometer can be understood by the following diagram.

Balancing length x is given by
`(X)/(L)=(V)/V_0 RightarrowX=(VxxL)/V_0`
where, V =potential to be measured
`V_0` = potential difference across potentiometer wire
L= length of the potentiometer wire Since, `X prop L`
So, if length of potentiometer wire is increased without changing the cell, the balancing length will also increases.
