How many Faradays of electricity are required to deposit 10 g of calcium from molten calcium chloride using inert electrodes? (Molar mass of calcium = `40g mol^-1)`

A

`0.5F`

B

1F

C

`0.25F`

D

2F

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

n=10/40 mol = 0.25 mol
`Ca^(+2) + 2e^(-) -> Ca`

For 1 mole, 2e- = 2F of electricity
So, for 0.25 mole, 0.25x2 F = 0.5 F
