The equation of the line passing through...

The equation of the line passing through the point (-3,1) and bisecting the angle between coordinate axes is

A

`x+y+2=0`

B

`-x+y+2=0`

C

`x-y+4=0`

D

`2x+y+5=0`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Since, the line bisects the angle between coordinate axes .
`:.theta=135^(@)`

Now, equation of the line passing through the point (-3,1) and making angle `theta=135^(@)` with positive direction of X-axis, is
`y-1=m(x+3)`
`rArr y-1=tan 135^(@)(x+3) [:'m=tan theta and theta = 135^(@)]`
`rArr y-1=-1(x+3)`
`rArr y-1=-x-3`
`rArr x+y+2=0`
Hence, option (a) is correct.
