Give any 'two' points of differences between diamagnetic and ferromagnetic substances.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Differences between diamagnetic and ferromagnetic substances:
`(1)` When diamagnetic substances are placed in a magnetic field, these are feebly manetised opposite to the direction of the magnetic field but ferromagnetic substances are strongly magnetised in the direction of magnetic field.
`(2)` The susceptibility `X_(m)` of diamagnetic substances is small and negative. For ferromagnetic substances susceptibility is large and positive.
