Find the total energy and binding energy...

Find the total energy and binding energy of an artifical satellite of mass orbiting at height of above the surface of the earth.
[`G=6.67xx10^(-11)S.I` units, Radius of earth : `R=6400km` , Mass of earth : `M=6xx10^(24)kg`]

Text Solution

Given : `h=1800km=1.8xx10^(6)m`, `m=800kg`.
Total energy `=-(GMm)/(2(R+h))`
`=-(6.67xx10^(-11)xx6xx10^(24)xx800)/(2(6400+1800)xx10^(3))`
`=-(3.20xx10^(17))/(1.64xx10^(7))=-1.95xx10^(10)J`
`B.E.=(GMm)/(2(R+h))` [`:'B.E.=-T.E.`]
`=(6.67xx10^(-11)xx6xx10^(24)xx800)/(2(6400+1800)xx1000)`
`=1.95xx10^(10)J`
