What is metamerism? Explain metamerism with suitable examples of ethers.

Text Solution

Metamers are either chain isomer or position isomers with same functional group and have different alkyl groups attached to heteroatom.
Following metamers are represented by formula `C_(4) H_(10) O`.
` {:(1,CH_(3) CH_(2)OCH_(2) CH_(3), "diethly ehter"),(2,CH_(3) OCH_(2) CH_(2) CH_(3), "methyl n-proply either"),(3,CH_(3) O underset(|)underset(CH_(3))(C )H CH_(3), "Methyl isopropyl ether"):}`
