Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The four characteristics of the co- ordinate complex ions are : (a) The complex ion has different characterstic properties than metal ions or ligands . For example , the properties of ` [ Cu (NH_(3))_(4)]^(2+)` are different than `CU^(2+)` ions or `NH_(3)` molecules .
(b ) Complex ions retain identify in the solution , through they dissociate to a very small extent .
(c) The net charge of a complex ion is equal to algebraic sum of the change on the central metal ion and on ligands .
(d) A chelate complex formed by polydentate ligands is more stable than the non - chelate complex , For example , ` [ Zn(en)_(2)]^(2+)` is more stable than ` [ Zn (NH_(3))_(6)^(2+)]`
