Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere act like a mirror and reflect back the heat raditions , which would otherwise be lost to space . The higher concertration of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere generated mainly from burning of fossil fuels ( oil , gas , petrol , kersene , etc . ) has been the major reason for global warming .
