What is Biofortification ? Explain selective breeding with suitable example .

It is the method of breeding crops to increase their nutritional value.
Selective breeding
(i) Plant breeders search seed or germplasm bank for existing varieties of crops which are naturally high in nutrients .
(ii)Then they cross breed these high - nutrients varieties with high yielding varieties of crops , to provide a seed with high yields and increased nutritional value . e.g., wheat variety , Arlass -66 hybrid wheat , Vitamin A enriched carrots , pumpkin , spinach , Vitamin C enriched bittergourd , bathua , mustard , tomato, iron and calcium enriched spinach , protein enriched peas and garden beans .
(iii) Crops must be breed with sufficient amount of nutrients to have a measurably positive impact of human health.
