A man is walking with `3 m//s,` due east. Rain is falling vetically downwards with speed `4 m//s.` Find the direction in which man should hold his umbrella, so that rain does not wet him.

The correct Answer is:
A

As we discussed above, the should hold his umbrell in the direction of `v_(rm)`
or `v_r-v_m`

`OP=v_r+(-v_m)=v_r-v_m=v_(rm)`
`rArr tan theta=3/4`
`rArr theta=tan^-1(3/4)=37^@`

Therefore, man should hold his umbrella at an angle of `37^@` east of vertical (or`37^@`from verticle towards east).
