Figure shows the part of a circuit. Calculate the power dissipated in `3omega` resistance. What is the potential difference `V_C-V_B?`

Text Solution

Applying Kirchhoff's junction law at `E` current in wire `DE` is `8A` from `D` to `E`. Now further applying junction law at D, the current in `3Omega` resistance will be `3A` towards `D`.
Power dissipated in `3Omega` resistance `=i^2R=(3)^2(3)=27W`

`V_C-V_B V_C-5xx1+12-8xx2-3-4xx2=V_B`
`:. V_C-V_B=5-12+16+3+8`
`V_C-V_B=20V`
