Assertion : Current in wire-1 is in the direction as shown in figure. The bottom wire is fixed. To keep the upper wire stationary, current in it should be in opposite direction.
Reason : Under the above condition, equilibrium of upper wire is stable.

To balance the wieght foce on upper wire should be upwrds (repulsion). Further equilibrium can be checked by displacig the wire from equilibrium position.
