White light is incident normally on a gl...

White light is incident normally on a glass plate (in air) of thickness `500 nm` and refractive index of `1.5`. The wavelength (in `nm`) in the visible region `(400 nm-700nm)` that is strongly reflected by the plate is:

A

450

B

600

C

400

D

500

The correct Answer is:
B

Ray-1 is reflected from a denser medium `(Delta phi = pi)` while ray-2 comes after reflecting from a rarer medium `(Delta phi= 0^@).`
` :. Deltax = 2mut = (2n-1) lambda/2` for maximum intensity.
or `lambda= (4mut)/(2n-1)`
`= (4xx 1.5 xx 500)/(2n-1) = (3000/(2n-1)) nm `

Substituting n = 1,2,3..........etc, we get `lambda`=3000 nm, 1000 nm, 600 nm etc.
Answer is 600nm.
