Assertion: Boiling and melting point of ...

Assertion: Boiling and melting point of amides are higher than corresponding acids
Reason : It is due to strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding in their molention.

A

If both the assertion and reason are true and reason is correct explanation of the assertion .

B

If both the assertion and reason are true but reason is not a correct explanation of the assertion .

C

If the assertion is true but the reason is false.

D

If both assertion and reason are false.

The correct Answer is:
A

Amides are `R-CONH_(2)`
Acids are `R-COOH`
Due to the presence of `-NH_(2)` group in amides there is stronger hydrogen bonding between the amide molecules than between the acid molecules . Some acids are rather present in dimers from due to the presence of intra molecular hydrogen bonding .
