Shown below are the black body radiation curves at temperature `T_(1)` and `T_(2) (T_(2) gt T_(1))`. Which of the following plots is correct?

A

B

C

D

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

From Wein's displacement law, we know that,
`lamda_(m)T`=constant
Which means that as temperature increases than the wavelength having the maximum intensity shifts towards left. Here, `T_2 gt T_1`
`therefore lamda_(m_(T_2)) lt lamda_(m_(T_1))`
But in plot (a) `lamda_(m_(T_2)) = lamda_(m_(T_1)) " in plot (b) " lamda_(m_(T_2)) gt lamda_(m_(T_1)) " and in plot (d) " lamda_(m_(T_2)) gt lamda_(m_(T_1))`. Therefore the correct plot is (c) where `lamda_(m_(T_2)) lt lamda_(m_(T_1))`.
