Radioactive nuclei emit `beta^-1` particles.
Electrons exist inside the nucleus.

A

If the both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion

B

If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion

C

If assertion is true but reason is false

D

If both assertion and reason are false statements.

The correct Answer is:
C

Nuclear stability depends upon the ratio of neutron to proton. If the n/p ratio is more than the critical value, then a neutron gets converted into a proton forming a `beta^-` particle in the process.
`n to p + e`
The `beta(-) " particle " (e^-)` is emitted from the nucleus in some radioative transformation. So electrons do not exist in the nucleus but they result in some nuclear trasformation.

The electrons cannot exist inside the nucleus because

A radioactive nucleus emits a beta particle. The parent and daughter nuclei are:

A: In beta -decay an electron is emitted by the nucleus R: Electrons are not present inside the nucleus.

Some radioactive nucleus may emit

Assertion (A) : Nucleus of the atom does not contain electrons, yet it emits beta- particles in the form of electrons. Reason (R): In the nucleus , protons and neutrons exchange mesons frequently.

Explain how radio-active nucleus can emit beta -particles even though nuclei do not contain these particles. Hence explain why the mass number of radioactive nuclide does not change during beta - decay.

Some radioactive nucleus may emit.
