Assertion : The nuclear isomers are the ...

Assertion : The nuclear isomers are the atoms with the same atomic number and same mass number, but with different radionctive properties.
Reason : The nucleus in the excited state will evidently have a different half-life as compared to that in the ground state.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion

C

If assertion is true but reason is false

D

If both assertion and reason are false.

The correct Answer is:
A

The nuclear isomerism in the nuclei of same number and same atomic number arises due to different radioactive properties. The reason for nuclear isomerism' is the different energy states of two isomeric nuclei. One may be in the ground state and other in an excited state. The nucleus in the excited state will have different half-life.
