Hemoglobin is the oxygen carrier in red blood cells of all vertebrates .With carbon monoxide hemoglobin forms carboxyhemoglobin. The binding capacity (affinity ) of hemoglobin for carbon monoxide is over 100 times that of the binding capacity for oxygen .
