The common lead storage battery produces electricity by two hall cell reactions, one of which is (written in the direction of production of electricity )

A

`Pb+SO_4^(2-) to PbSO_4 + 2e^-`

B

`PbSO_4 + 2e^(-) to Pb+SO_4^(2-)`

C

`PbSO_4 + 2H_2O to PbO_2 + 4H^(+) + SO_4^(2-) + 2e^(-)`

D

none of the above

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

During the production of electricity the two half-cell reactions of the storage battery are `Pd+SO_4^(-2) to PdSO_4 + 2e^-`
`PdO_2 + 4H + SO_4^(-2) + 2e^(-) to PdSO_4 + 2H_2O`
During recharging of the battery the two half-cell reactions are reversed .
