In hydrogen atom an whit has a diemeter of about `16.92Å` .What in the maximum number of electron that can be accommodated ?

A

`8`

B

`32`

C

`50`

D

`72`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Diameter of hydrogen atom `= 16.92 Å`
Radius of an atom `= (16.92)/(2) = 8.46 Å`
We know
`r_(m) = (0.53 n^(2))/(Z) Å`
`8.46 = (0.53n^(2))/(1)`
`or n= 4 `
Therefore the maximum number of electron in the fourth orbit are `= 2n^(2) = 2 xx (4)^(2) = 32`
