Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Wavelength of the first line of the balmer series
`n_(1) = 2 and n_(2) = 3`
`bar v _(1)= RZ^(2)[(1)/(2^(2)) - (1)/(3^(2))] = ( 5 xx 5R)/(36) = (5R)/(4)`
:. Wavelength of the first line of the bakmer series `= (4)/(5R)`
Wavelength of alitimate line (limiting line) of the balmer series
`bar v _(2) = RZ^(2)[(1)/(2^(2)) - (1)/(oo)] = (9R)/(4)`
Wavelength of the altimate line of the balmer series `= (4)/(9R)`
`:. Ratio = (9)/(5)`
