What is the maximum number of electron ...

What is the maximum number of electron that can be accommodated
In the sub-with` l = 3`?
In the shell-with` n = 3`?
In the orbital with` m_(1) = +3`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For a sub-shell `1= 3`,number of orbitals `= 2l + 1 = 2 xx 3 + 1 = 7`
Number of electron` 2 xx 7 = 14`
b. For a sub-shell `n = 3`,The number of orbitals is `= n^(2) = 3^(2)= 9`
Number of electron` = 9 xx 2 = 18`
c. Orbit with `n_(1) = +5` correspomding to only one orbital and bence it can accommodate only two electrons
