A bottle of dry ammonia and a bottle of ...

A bottle of dry ammonia and a bottle of dry hydrogen chloride connected through a long tube are opened simultaneously at both ends. The white ammonium chloride ring first formed will be

A

At the center of the tube

B

Near the hydrogen chloride bottle

C

Near the ammonia bottle

D

Throughout the length of the tube

Text Solution

`NH_(3)` and `HCl` from opposite ends of a tube.

`NH_(3)` being lighter than `HCl` diffuses faster (according to Graham's law). So a white ring of `NH_(4)Cl` fumes is formed by the reaction between `NH_(3)` and `HCl` in the region `C` of the tube.
