Equal volumes of 1M HCI and 1M H(2)SO(4)...

Equal volumes of `1M HCI` and `1M H_(2)SO_(4)` are neutralised by `M NaOH` solution and `x` and `y kJ//` equivalent of heat are liberated, respectively. Which of the following relations is correct?

A

`x = 2y`

B

`x = 3y`

C

`x = 4y`

D

`x = (1)/(2)y`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Since, `H_(2)SO_(4)` gives `2 "moles" H^(o+), HCI` gives `1"mole" H^(o+)` from 1mole after ionisation. Hence, `H_(2)So_(4)` will release double amount of heat as compared to `HCI`.
i.e., `y = 2x or x = (y)/(2)`
