Find the solubility of `Ca(IO_(3))_(2)` is `molL^(-1)` in a solution containing `0.1M CaC1` at `25^(@)C`. `K_(sp)` of `Ca(IO_(3))_(2) = 6.3 xx 10^(-7)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A, B, C

`{:(Ca (IO_(3))_(2) hArr,Ca^(2+)+,2IO_(3)^(Theta),,),(,S,2S,,):}`
In presence of `0.1M CaC1_(2)`, due to common ion effect, solubility of `Ca(IO_(3))_(2)` is supressed.
`[Ca^(2+)] = (S + 0.1) ~~ 0.1`
`K_(sp) = (S + 0.1) (2S)^(2) = 0.1 xx 4S^(2)`
Use formula,
`:. S_(new) = ((K_(sp))/(4C))^(1//2) = ((6.3 xx 10^(-7))/(4xx0.1))^(1//2)`
`= (1.575 xx 10^(-6))^(1//2)`
`= 1.25 xx 10^(-3)M`
