The degree fo hydrolysis for a salt of strong acid and weak base

A

Is independent of dilution

B

Increases with dilution

C

Increases with decrease in `K_(b)` of the base

D

Decreases with decrease in temperature

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B, C, D

Salt of `S_(A)` and `W_(B):h = sqrt((K_(h))/(c)) = sqrt((K_(w))/(K_(b).C))`
`rArr h` increases as 'C' decreases [on dilution]
As `T` increases, `K_(h)` increases `rArr h` increases.
As `T` decreases, `K_(h)` decreases `rArr h` decreases.
As strength of base decreases (i.e., `K_(b)` decreases) `rArr h` increases
Note: Both `k_(w)` and increase with increase in temperature, but `K_(w)` will increase sharply as compred to `K_(b)`. So `K_(b)`. increases with increase in temperature.
