If `H_(3)O^(+)` ion concentration of a solution is increased by 10 times , its pH will

A

Increase by `1`

B

Remains unchanged

C

Decreases by `1`

D

Increase by `10`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Let the initial concentration of `H^(o+) = 10^(-1)M`
`pH = 1`
The new concnetration of `H^(o+)`, is `10` times the initial concentration of `H^(o+) = 10 xx 10^(-1) M = 10^(@) = 1 pH_(2) =- log(1) = 0`
The change in `pH = pH_(1) - pH_(2) = 1.0 = 0`
Change in `pH` is one and it decreases from `1` to zero.
