Two platinum electrodes were immersed in a solution of `CuSO_(4)` and electric current was passed through the solution. After some time, it was found that colour of `CuSO_(4)` disappeared with evolution of gas at the electrode. The colourless solution contains.

A

Platinum sulphate

B

Copper hydroxide

C

Copper sulphate

D

Sulphuric acid

The correct Answer is:
d

`CuSO_(4)(aq) overset(El ectrolysis)rarrCu^(2+)(aq)+SO_(4)^(2-)(aq)`
At cathode`:Cu^(2+)(aq)+2e^(-) rarr Cu(` reduction `)`
The blue colour of `CuSO_(4)` disappears due to the deposition of `Cu` on `Pt` electrode.
At anode `: H_(2)O rarr 2H^(o+)+2e^(-)+(1)/(2)O_(2)(g)`
Since oxidation potential of `SO_(4)^(2-)`, so oxidation of `H_(2)O` occurs and `O_(2)(g)` is evolved at anode.
The colourless solution is due to the formation of `H_(2)SO_(4)` as follows `:`
`2H^(o+)(` from anode `)+SO_(4)^(2-) rarr H_(2)SO_(4)`

Two platinum electrodes were immersed in a solution of CuSO_(4) and electric current was passed through the solution. After some time, it was fournd that the colour of CuSO_(4) disappeared with the evolution of O_(2)(g) at the electrode. Which statement is true regarding the resultant solution having pH=X?

Electrolysis is the process in which electrical energy is converted to chemical energy. In electrolytic cell, oxidation takes place at anode and reduction at cathode. Electrode process depends on the electrode taken for electrolysis. Amount of substance liberated at an electrode is directly propertional to the amount of charge passed through it. The mass of substance liberated at electrode is calculated using the following relation : m= ("ItE")/(96500) Here, E represents the equivalent mass and 96500 C is called the Faraday constant. Faraday (96500 C) is the charge of 1 mole electron, i.e., 6.023 xx 10^(23) electrons, it is used to liberate one gram equivalent of the substance. The platinum electrodes were immersed in a solution of cupric sulphate (CuSO_(4)) and electric current is passed through the solution. after sometime, it was observed that the colour of copper sulphate disappeared with evolution of a gas at the electrode. The colourless solution contains :

A solution of CuSO_(4) in water is …….. in colour.

A solution of CuSO_(4) in water is …………. In colour.

The colour of light absorbed by an aqueous solution of CuSO_(4) is
