The complex [Co(NH(3))(5)F]^(2+) reacts ...

The complex `[Co(NH_(3))_(5)F]^(2+)` reacts with water according to the equation
`[Co(NH_(3))_(5)F]^(2+)+H_(2)O rarr[Co(NH_(3))_(5)(H_(2)O)]^(3+) + F^(ɵ)` and Rate `= k["Complex"]^(a)[H^(o+)]^(b)`
The reaction is acid catalyzed, i.e., `[H^(o+)]` does not change during the reaction.
Thus, rate `=k'["Complex"]^(3)`, where `k' = k[H^(o+)]^(b)`
Calculate `a` and `b` form the following data `(t = 25^(@)C)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Rate `= k'["Complex"]^(a), k' = k[H^(o+)]^(b)`
Since `t_(3//4) = 2t_(1//2)`
Hence, order w.r.t. complex, `a=1`.
Now, `k_(1) = k[H^(o+)]_(1)^(b), k'_(2) = k[H^(o+)]_(2)^(b)`
`:. ((t_(1//2))_(2))/((t_(1//2))_(1)) = (([H^(o+)]_(1))/([H^(o+)]_(2)))^(b)`
`(0.5)/(1) = ((0.01)/(0.02))^(b) rArr b = 1`
Hence, order w.r.t. `[H^(o+)] = 1`
