For the given reaction
`A+B rarr` Products,
the following data are given.

(a) Write the rate equation.
(b) Calculate the rate constant.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
(a) Rate `= k[A][B]^(0) = k[A]`
(b) `k = 0.5 s^(-1)`

`|{:("Initial concentration" (mol L^(-1)) [A]_(0),"Initial concentration" (mol L^(-1))[B]_(0),"Initial" (mol L^(-1) s^(-1))),(0.1,0.1,0.05),(0.2,0.1,0.1),(0.1,0.2,0.05):}|`
When the concentration of `A` alone is doubled, rate of the reaction gets doubled, therefore the order with respect to `A` is `1`.
When the concentration of `B` alone is doubled, rate of the reaction does not change, therefore the order with respect to `B` is zero.
a. Rate equation is
Rate `=k[A][B]^(0)=k[A]`
b. Rate equation is
Rate `=k[A][B]^(0)=k[A]`
or `0.05= kxx0.1`
or `k= 0.5s^(-1)`
