Write the values of `alpha + beta ` and `alpha beta ` for the following quadratic equations `:`
(i) `4x^(2) - 5x - 3 = 0 ` (ii) ` x^(2) + 9x - 10 = 0 `

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) ` alpha + beta = ( - b)/( a)`
`= ( - ( -5))/(4) = ( 5)/(4)`
`alpha beta = ( c )/( a ) `
` = ( - 3)/( 4) = - (3)/(4)`
(ii) `alpha + beta = ( -b)/ (a) `
` = (-9)/ (1) = -9`
` alpha beta = ( c )/( a)`
`= ( -10)/( 1) = - 10 `
