हम जानते है की
` sec^(2) phi = 1 + tan^(2) phi`
` rArr sec^(2) phi = 1 + x^(2)`
` rArr sec phi = pm sqrt(1+x^(2)) `
` rArr cos phi = pm 1/(sqrt(1+x^(2)))`
` rArr cos (tan ^(-1) x ) = pm 1/sqrt(1+x^(2)) " "` ...(3)
समी (1) , (2) , (3) से
` pm 1/(sqrt(1+(x+1)^(2))) = pm 1/(sqrt(1+x^(2)))`
दोनों पक्षों का वर्ग करने पर ,
` 1/(1+(x+1)^(2)) = 1/((1+x^(2)))`
` rArr (1+x^(2))= 1 + (x+1)^(2)`
` rArr 1+ x^(2) = 1+x^(2) + 2x +1`
` rArr 1 + 2x = 0 `
` rArr x = -1/2 `
अतः ` x = -1/2` अभीष्ट हल है ।
