Two condensers, one of capacity `C` and the other of capacity `C//2` are connected to a `V` volt battery, as shown.

The work done in charging fully both the condensers is

A

`1/4CV^(2)`

B

`3/4CV^(2)`

C

`1/2CV^(2)`

D

`2CV^(2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

As the capacitors are connected in parallel, therefore potential difference across both the condensors remains the same.
`therefore q_(1) = CV , q_(2) = (C)/(2)V`
Also `q = q_(1) +q_(2) = CV+(C)/(V) V = (3)/(2)V`
Work done in charging fully both the condensors is given by
`W = (1)/(2)qV = CV +(C)/(V) V = (3)/(2)CV`
