From the top of a 490 m high cliff, a boy throws a stone horizontally with a initial speed of ` 15 ms^(-1)`. What is the time taken by the stone to reach the ground.

A

5 s

B

10 s

C

12 s

D

15 s

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Here, `u = 15 ms^(-1), h = 490` m
Time takne by the stone to reach the ground is
`t = sqrt((2h)/(g)) = sqrt(( 2 xx 490 m )/(9.8 m s^(-2))) = 10` s
