A

`X gt Z gt Y`

B

`Z lt X lt Y`

C

`X gt Y gt Z`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Carboxylic acids are stronger acids than `-NH_(3)^(+)` , therefore X is the strongest acid. Since -COOH has -I effect which decreases with distance , therefore, effect is more pronounced on Z than on Y. As a result Z is more acidic than Y. Therefore, overall order of increasing acid strength is `X gt Z gt Y`.
