If x : y = 3 : 4, then find (3y - x) : ...

If `x : y = 3 : 4`, then find ` (3y - x) : (2 x + y)`.

We have, ` x : y = 3 : 4`
or, ` x/y = 3/4 rArr x/y = (3k)/(4k) [k ne 0]`
` :. ` Let x = 3k and y = 4k
Now, `(3y - x) : (2 x + y) = (3y -x)/(2x + y) = (3 xx 4k - 3k)/(2 xx 3k + 4k) `
` = (12k - 3k)/(6k+4k) = (9k)/(10k) = 9/10 = 9 : 10`.
Hence ` (3y - x) : (2x + y) = 9 : 10`.
