From the top of a building 96 m high the angles of depression of two vehicles on a road at the same level and in the same line with the foot of the building and on the same side of it are `x^@` and `y^@` where `tanx^@=3/4` and`tany^@=1/3` Calculate the distance between the vehicles.

Text Solution

`tan x = 96/a`
`3/4 = 96/a`
`a=128m`
`tan y = 96/(a+b)`
`1/3 = 96/(128+b)`
`128 + b = 96 xx 3 = 288`
`b= 288- 128= 160m`
