A man runs `100.5 m` in `10.3 sec`. Find his average speed up to appropriate significant figures.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
`9.76 ms^(-1)`

Average speed `= ("Distance travelled") /("Time taken") = (100.5 m)/( 10.3 s) = 9.757 m s^(-1)`
Note that the distance `100.5 m` has four significant figures but the time of `10.3 s` has only three . Thus , we round off the final resultto three significiant figures.
The average speed must be correctly expressed as `9.76 m s^(-1)`.

A 90-kg man runs up an escalator while it is not in operation in 10s . What is the average power developed by the man. Suppose the escalator is running so that the escalator steps move at a speed of 0.5m^-1 . In a river of 20 m width. Half part of river flows with speed 10 m//sec and remaining half part flows with 20m//sec as shown in figure. A man starts to swim from A and reaches to point B in 10 sec. Man swims with speed V_m with respect to river at an angle theta with line AB. Then, angle theta will be : (man swims with constant speed and in same direction with respect to river throughout the motion):
