An elevator of mass M with a person of m...

An elevator of mass M with a person of mass m is moving upward with uniform velocity `vecv`. What is the power delivered by the elevator?

Text Solution

Sine the system moves up with constant velocity, the change in KE of the system is zero. Let T be the tension in the rope of the elevator acceleration.

Therefore, `F_(n et)=T-(M+m)g=(M+m)a`
Putting `a=0`, we obtain `T=(M+m)g`.
Therefore, power delivered by the elevator is
`P=vecT*vecv=Tvcos0=Tv=(M+m)gv`
