If f is the frequency when mass m is attached to a spring of spring constant k, then new frequency for this arrangement, is

A

`f//2`

B

`sqrt(2)f`

C

`f//sqrt(2)`

D

`2 sqrt(2)f`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The frequency of oscillation of spring mass system is given by
`f = (1)/(2pi)sqrt((k)/(m))`
For the given arrangement, `k'=k_(1)+k_(2)=k+k=2k`
Hence, frequency of oscillation is
`f'=(1)/(2pi)sqrt((k')/(m))=(1)/(2pi)sqrt((2k)/(m))=sqrt(2)f`
