A gas at 300 k is compressed to reduce its volume to half of its volume. At what temperature, will it become half of its initial volume?

A

98 k

B

100 k

C

150 k

D

162 k

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

Let,initial volume `V_(1)=V at300 k`
Final volume `V_(2)=V/2at T_(2)=temperature`
Then, according to Charles' law
`V_(1)/T_(1)=V_(2)/T_(2)rArrT_(2)=(V_(2)xxT_(1))/V_(1)=(V//2xx300)/V=150 k`
Hence,the final temperature is 150 k.
