HF

B

HBr

C

HCl

D

HI

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

Boiling point of substance depends upon forces of attraction existing between molecules. Hydrogen bonding is strongest force of attraction which exists between two molecules. The molecules having F or N or O with hydrogen from hydrogen bonds. Other molecules are held together by van der Waals' forces which are weaker as compared to hydrogen bonding.
`:'` H-F molecule forms strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding , so it has highest boiling point among HF ,HCl, HBr and HI, HCl, HBr and Hi are held together by weaker van der Waal's forces and have lower boiling point.
